😌Finding Calm Through Control & Acceptance
Jo Steele | NOV 28, 2025

I wanted to share a simple but powerful idea that sits at the heart of both wellbeing practices and modern neuroscience: we feel better when we stop trying to control what we can’t actually control.
From a brain perspective, every time we wrestle with things outside our control, such as other people’s reactions, the past, the “what ifs,” the future, the mind slips into rumination.
It loops.
It overthinks.
The nervous system stays switched on, even when we’re physically still.
But when we shift our attention to what is within our control, our breath, our movement, our self-talk, the choices we make in this moment, the brain experiences something very different.
We interrupt those old, automatic patterns.
We create the space needed between events that happen and how we respond. So that we can react more calmly and effectively.
We can't fight fire with fire!
This is how we begin to reset the neural pathways that drive stress and negative thinking.
Both yoga and hypnotherapy work beautifully in this space.
Yoga grounds the body and releases physical tension so the mind has something steady to settle into.
Hypnotherapy helps engage the subconscious, making it easier to release old thought habits and build new, more helpful ones.
Letting go isn’t passive, or easy, it’s a skill. And the more we practise it, the more resilience we build and the more natural it becomes!
If you’re curious about exploring this further, either through your yoga practice or through hypnotherapy sessions, I’d love to support you.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead,
Jo x
