🤯 When everything matters.... and nothing gets done!

I'll be honest, this week has felt a little tough.

Don't worry, nothing has actually happened and life hasn't fallen apart, but tough in a more persistent way where your mind is full, your to-do list is longer than your energy and no matter how much you think about what you should be doing… you don’t quite begin. I write this after literally staring at my laptop and achieving nothing (except looking at the to-do list and flitting between open tabs 🙄)

If you’ve felt like that too, you’re not alone.

Sometimes the challenge isn’t a lack of motivation or discipline. It’s that we’re dealing with too much at once. Too many ideas, too many decisions, too many things that matter to us. When everything feels important, it can become strangely hard to take even the smallest step forward.

There’s actually a reason for this. When your brain is faced with too many competing priorities, the prefrontal cortex, the part responsible for decision-making and focus, gets overloaded. At the same time, your nervous system can interpret that overload as stress, subtly activating a freeze response. Instead of choosing one clear path, your brain hesitates… and in that hesitation, nothing gets done.

This is where we gently come back to something we often forget:
we are human beings, not machines. Just because AI never stops or slows doesn't mean that we can't!

We are allowed to have weeks where things feel slower.
We are allowed to feel uncertain.
We are allowed to not have everything figured out.

And more than that, we deserve a bit of grace in those moments.

What would it feel like to soften the pressure, just slightly?
To speak to yourself with the same kindness you’d offer a friend?
To recognise that you are, in fact, doing your best with what you have right now?

Because you are.

Progress doesn’t always look like big, productive days. Sometimes it looks like pausing, recalibrating and taking one small, steady step forward. And that still counts. It always counts. Even if, as in my case today, it results in another identical to-do list, but this time things are ordered by level of importance! Look at me go 🤭🙌🏻

If things have felt a little heavy or overwhelming for you too, I just want to kindly remind you: you’re allowed to take things one small step at a time.

Tools that always help me range from a bit of Yoga, dancing about to my favourite classic songs from the 80s and 90s, a walk on the moor listening to a fabulous podcast or allowing myself a complete pause to zone out & daydream (oh yes - the link to a trance like state #hypnotherapy)

But also, you don’t have to do it all on your own. Talking to family & friends or that favourite colleague is a great way to clear a full & busy mind.
