Meet AI Jo. She’s perfect. But would you really want her?

Let me introduce you to AI Jo. My perfect digital twin.

She looks fabulous. She knows everything about everything. She never gets her words muddled, never forgets what she was saying halfway through a sentence and most importantly, she NEVER breaks into uncontrollable giggles in the middle of a class.

She is the ultimate professional. Every session is perfectly planned, every question gets a textbook answer and she never has a bad day.

She's a bit of a dream.

But... Would you actually want to spend time with her?

The trouble with perfection

We live in a world that seems obsessed with getting things right. Looking right. Saying the right thing. Knowing the answer. Having it all together.

And now, with AI, we can create a version of ourselves that does all of that effortlessly.

AI Jo can explain the benefits of strength training, talk you through a yoga pose and tell you why building muscle matters as you get older. She can give you all the information you could possibly need.

But there's something she can't do.

She can't truly understand what it's like to be you.

She can tell you about the theory of confidence, but she can't know what it feels like to walk into a room feeling completely out of your comfort zone. She can explain the importance of resilience, but she hasn't experienced the frustration of feeling your body change or the courage it takes to start again.

She knows the theory. She doesn't know the emotion.

And that matters.

The power of being human

One of the things I love most about teaching is the connection.

It's the conversations before class. The shared laughter when something goes a bit wonky. The moments when someone groans at the core work and someone else says, "Oh thank god, it's not just me!"

It's knowing that sometimes, what you need isn't another piece of information or someone telling you what to do.

Sometimes, you just need to feel understood.

To feel that someone sees you, values you and accepts you exactly as you are.

And that doesn't happen because someone is perfect.

It happens because we're human.

Our imperfections aren't something we need to hide. They're part of what makes us relatable, approachable and able to connect with one another.

Being vulnerable enough to admit that we don't have all the answers can be incredibly powerful. It's how we learn, how we grow and how we build relationships that mean something.

AI Jo knows the theory. Real Jo knows you.

AI Jo might be able to give you a perfectly structured workout and explain exactly why strength training is important as you get older.

But she can't truly know what you're going through.

She can't see the whole picture of your life, understand every emotion behind your words or appreciate all the things that make you uniquely you.

And while AI can offer useful information, ideas and support, it isn't a replacement for the understanding, empathy and connection that can come from another human being.

Real Jo, on the other hand, will do her best to understand where you're coming from.

She might not know the answer to every question. She might confuse her lefts and rights, get carried away with how much she loves ankle circling (IYKYK) or break into a fit of giggles.

But she will listen. She will care. She will adapt.

And she will always strive to support you as the individual you are, rather than the person a textbook says you should be.

So, who would you rather spend time with?

If you want perfection, AI Jo might be just what you need.

But if you want to feel connected, valued, understood and supported as the wonderfully imperfect individual you are, then Real Jo is pretty awesome.

Because life isn't about getting everything right.

It's about learning, growing, showing up for ourselves (and each other) and finding the courage to keep going, especially when things aren't perfect.

And sometimes, the most valuable thing another person can offer you isn't the answer to your question.

It's simply being there.

So here's to being human. To the messiness, the laughter, the vulnerability and the connection.

I'll take that over perfection any day.
